On behalf of one of our international clients, a family-owned and operated end-of-line packaging machinery company with headquarters in Germany, YER USA is currently searching for an experienced Sales Engineer (~20% of travel).

 

Job description

Our client is seeking a technically strong, customer-focused Sales Engineer to drive growth in their end-of-line packaging equipment business, with a key focus on, robotic palletizing and automation solutions.  This role blends engineering expertise with consultative selling – working directly with customers in their plants to assess current operations, identify opportunities, and design integrated packaging system solutions that improve efficiency, throughput, and reliability.  The ideal candidate brings experience from packaging machinery, material handling, automation, or system integration, and can translate real-world production challenges into effective technical solutions that may involve 3rd party equipment.

Main tasks and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

 

Consultative Sales & Solution Development

  • Engage directly with customers to understand production challenges and operational goals
  • Conduct on-site assessments of packaging lines, workflows, and plant layouts
  • Recommend tailored solutions including palletizing, conveying, robotics, and automation systems
  • As part of an international team, develop system concepts, equipment recommendations, and preliminary layouts

 

Technical Design & Proposal Support

  • Collaborate with engineering teams to validate system designs and feasibility
  • Prepare technical proposals in company ERP system
  • Group sales exchange and teamwork for international key accounts
  • Present company as a solutions provider to end-users
  • Support ROI analysis and justification for capital equipment investments
  • Participate in negotiations and legal contract formulation

 

Business Development

  • Help expand the company’s footprint in robotic palletizing and automation solutions
  • Identify new opportunities within existing accounts and target new customers
  • Stay current on market trends, competitor offerings, and emerging technologies
  • Maintain personal annual sales budget

 

Internal Collaboration

  • Partner with project management and engineering during the sales phase as well as project handoff
  • Provide technical input during execution to ensure alignment with customer expectations
  • Help refine standard offerings and improve solution efficiency
  • Usage of company CRM tools and reporting routines
  • Stay involved with ongoing projects at a level that allows for account management

Candidate Profile
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, Controls) or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years of experience in packaging equipment, automation, robotics, or material handling
  • Strong technical understanding of end-of-line systems (palletizing, case packing, conveying)
  • Experience working directly with customers in manufacturing environments
  • Strong consultative selling and problem-solving mindset
  • Ability to quickly understand plant operations and identify improvement opportunities
  • High mechanical aptitude and system-level thinking
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Self-starter with a strong learning curve and adaptability
  • Willingness to travel to customer sites
  • Experience working with basic 2D layouts in AutoCAD
