The team of 43 people in Newtown, PA represents six brands in the domestic market: Retsch, Microtrac, Carbolite, Eltra, QATM and ERWEKA. Verder Scientific provides laboratories with innovative solutions. The company has nine production sites including a site in York, PA and eleven sales companies worldwide and is part of the German-Dutch technology group Verder, with over 2000 employees.
Your role
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Director of Finance & Controlling to operationally and strategically strengthen our company based at the York, PA site. In this key position, you will be part of the US Management team, reporting directly to the General Manager and with a dotted line to the CFO of Verder Scientific (located in Germany). This position involves close collaboration with our headquarter in Germany as well as hands-on support and leadership of finance and controlling functions at our two American locations. Your comprehensive expertise will enable you to optimize our processes and strengthen our market position.
Job location is York, PA or Newtown, PA with a requirement to provide on-site support for the other location with scheduled frequency.
What you’ll do
- Together with your team you oversee and ensure all financial operations, including preparation and analysis of financial statements, budgeting, forecasting, and sales controlling automation
- Serve as a key advisor for management on financial aspects, including financial analysis, reporting, and control, in line with international GAAP
- Develop and implement an integrated strategy for finance, including sales controlling and taxes, aligned with corporate objectives, harmonizing tools, and processes for all Verder Scientific U.S. companies
- Lead cash flow analysis and implement improvements, ensuring compliance with local and international tax regulations and serving as the primary point of contact for audits and financial authorities
- Upon gaining a comprehensive understanding of all finance-related matters, you’ll play a pivotal role in the harmonization of IT & HR tools, processes, and standards, contributing significantly to the enhanced synchronization of our two American locations.

Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field. Master’s degree preferred
- Minimum 10 years of relevant experience, including International, multicultural settings (handling US GAAP vs IFRS)
- Hands-on mentality as well as continuous improvement mindset and strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong knowledge of financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting
- Expertise in Microsoft Office (expert in Excel) tools as well as MRP systems (Microsoft Dynamics 365 a plus)
- Proven record in leading and developing staff
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Willingness for regular business trips to the Newtown, PA location
